Welcome to “Self-Representation in a Digital Age”
Outlined across these pages is a writing course entitled “Self-Representation in a Digital Age.” It takes seriously the presence of generative AI in the college writing classroom, and it seeks to bend generative AI into a writing collaborator, not the primary author. The primary site of origin and inspiration is the 2021 essay “Ghosts,” written by Vauhini Vara and published in The Believer. It engages French artist JR in his interrogation of self-representation. And it affirms Jia Tolentino’s desire to move past the digital impulse to reinforce our own self-identity as the center of the universe.
Across this site you will find a class schedule and major writing assignments, as well as readings and videos designed as resources for students in such a course.
